On This Spot is heading into fall as busy as ever, gearing up to participate in the national celebration of Culture Days, which runs from September 24th until October 24th. Across the country, residents and visitors will be able to participate in hundreds of free events celebrating Canada’s culture, art, and history. On This Spot will be participating in five provinces, with over 40 events across the country. Participants can engage in self-guided walking tours in major cities such as Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.
The fall is a perfect time to get out and explore your local community before the snow and cold weather arrives. Celebrate, learn about, and reflect upon Canada’s culture and identity through the lens of Culture Days. In addition to our signature On This Spot walking tours, we will have Story Locations in towns and cities across the country. These short, engaging articles will be tied to specific historical locations and photos and will dive into Canada’s history on a micro-level.
Try our brand new camera feature on Apple devices. This augmented reality experience will allow you to step back in time through photographs, merging historical images with your present day surroundings. Snap a photo of yourself standing on a nineteenth century streetscape or posing with someone from the 1920s. In participating locations throughout Culture Days, On This Spot users can even receive free prints of historical photos if they post their blended pictures on social media.
